New Year, Healthier You: Navigating Health as We Age

Join us for a three-part educational series designed to empower aging adults, families, and caregivers with expert guidance on key health topics that impact aging and overall well-being. Led by distinguished specialists from George Washington Medical Faculty Associates, this series offers timely, informative conversations with opportunities to gain practical insights and ask questions.

Each session will feature a different medical expert focusing on an essential area of health:

January 22nd at 11am | Dr. Yong-Xing Zhou, Neurologist
Explore how the brain changes as we age, with discussion on cognitive health, dementia, and Parkinson’s disease.

February 19th at 11am | Dr. William Borden, Cardiologist
In honor of Heart Month, learn strategies for keeping your heart strong and healthy, and better understand cardiovascular care as we age.

March 19th at 11am | Bones, Joints & Staying Active
Discover how to support mobility, joint health, and overall physical function to stay active and independent with Jordan Carolina Villa Martinez, MD, Michael Taber, PT, and Bridget Sweeney, RN.

    Mike serves as Supervisor for our clinic’s Neurological and Pelvic Health outpatient Rehabilitation Groups. In his previous clinical physical therapist role, Mike treated a general orthopedic patient population, as well as patients who experienced vestibular disorders or had sustained a concussion. He also co-created our clinic’s post- COVID rehabilitation program. Mike’s previous background in economic consulting and statistical analysis has paired well with his clinical and population health interests, leading to his pivot to an administrative role. He enjoys using this combined expertise to advocate for patients and staff and to continue the growth and progress of our clinic.

    Jordan Carolina Villa Martinez, MD is an Assistant Professor of Adult Reconstruction Surgery in the Orthopaedic Surgery Division at the George Washington University. Dr. Villa specializes in treating people with hip and knee conditions with a focus on individualized patient care. Her expertise includes degenerative joint disease requiring primary total joint replacement and existing joint pathology requiring revision surgery. Dr. Villa has extensive training in the most recent technology for joint replacement surgery, including computer navigation with Intellijoint Surgical and robotic-assisted surgery on state-of-the-art platforms including MAKO, CORI, and ROSA robots.

    Bridget Sweeney currently serves as the Director of Quality Management at The George Washington University Hospital, a position held since January 2021, and previously worked as a Nursing Manager at the same institution. Bridget Sweeney holds a Master’s degree in Nursing with a focus on Nursing Leadership and Education from Saint Francis University, completed between August 2021 and May 2023, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Registered Nursing from Duquesne University School of Nursing, earned from August 2004 to May 2008.
