Finding Meaningful Connection: How to Communicate When a Loved One Has Dementia

Throughout every stage of dementia, meaningful connection is possible. By making adjustments as changes occur, caregivers and families can continue to share moments of joy, comfort and closeness with their loved one.

Join us to learn practical strategies for communicating with greater understanding, confidence and compassion.

    National speaker, Author, Linguist and Medical professional

    Susan I. Wranik is a national speaker, author, linguist, and medical professional with a passion for clear communication and quality of life. A Milwaukee native, Susan began her career as a translator and interpreter for the Italian Ministry of Defense before transitioning to clinical work as a speech-language pathologist.

    Her career highlights include a TEDx talk on The Power of Words, clinical treatment in six languages, communication clubs for people with Parkinson’s disease, post-stroke rehabilitation programs, and support groups for aphasia and progressive supranuclear palsy. She is also a speech consultant for communities serving neurodivergent adults.

    Susan is the author of Don’t Forget to Say Thank You: 20 Thoughts to Guide You Personally and Professionally Through Life and creator of The Confidence Quotient, a recording exploring women’s communication styles. She is in private practice in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, where she works with adults and older adults experiencing neurogenic communication, cognitive, and swallowing challenges.
